Visit of the Students of the Pontifical Javeriana University of Cali-Colombia

Tue, 21/09/2023 - 13:30

Dr. Federico Domínguez and Msc. Adriano Pinargote received the students from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana De Cali-Colombia of the Systems and Computing Engineering degree. During their visit, they obtained the experience of evaluating and learning from CTI research projects.

PH.D. Federico Domínguez, leader of the TAI area "Technologies for Intelligent Environments", highlighted the RAP project of his system to detect fillers, sound pauses and the volume of the presenter's tone of voice and pointed out that the system also does a basic slide analysis of the sources used such as contrast and size of the fonts to be used.

Engineer Génesis Riera from the CCSH group "Human-Centered Computing" presented the project called "Platform to model the impact of adverse events on the evacuation and access routes of the Durán canton using historical mobility data"

The MSc. Adriano Pinargote from the ATA group "Learning Analytics and Technologies" presented the results of the project "Learning Analytics to support collaborative activities"

Eng. Nelson Vera from the TRI group “Smart Network Technologies” presented the project “WiFi Indoor Positioning System Based on OpenWRT”s unFirmware. He mentioned that the development of indoor positioning systems is possible thanks to the availability of wireless network infrastructure. . One of the needs that arose during the COVID 2019 pandemic was the determination or control of distancing between people to prevent the spread of the virus. This motivated us to implement an indoor positioning system using existing infrastructure.

Eng. Bryan Piguave and Eng. Jennifer Pita from the INARI group (Industrial Artificial Intelligence) presented the Hanger Audit system which seeks to improve the process of ordering the items on the hanger according to what is established in the planogram.

Engineer Rhandall Valdez of the INARI group (Industrial Artificial Intelligence) presented the Automatic Billing system which speeds up the sales process at checkouts, assisting customers at self-pay checkouts and cashiers at traditional checkouts. Products are placed in front of a camera at the point of sale and, in real time, the system automatically identifies the items using object detection algorithms. With Automatic Billing, collection times are reduced, achieving shorter lines and improving the customer experience.
