Students from Ecotec University toured the CTI facilities

Tue, 26/09/2023 - 10:000

Today, Tuesday, September 26, students from Ecotec University majoring in "digital business" toured the CTI facilities. Starting the journey through the following research areas:

1. ATA "Analíticas y Tecnologías del Aprendizaje"

Exhibitor: MSc. Adriano Pinargote

The MSc. Adriano Pinargote presented the results of the project "Learning analytics to support collaborative activities", which consisted of analyzing the behavior of students in virtual meetings using a Bot (Microsoft Teams) that detects the participation and speaking times of each participant in the session to provide feedback to teachers and students.

Findings and improvements being implemented by including AI for future analysis include automating feedback using Dashboards that provide improvements in collaborative metrics detected in meeting participants.

2. TAI "Tecnologías para Ambientes Inteligentes"

Exhibitor:: Ph.D Federico Domínguez

Dr. Federico Domínguez, presented the NEST project “Non-Intrusive Devices for Telemedicine”. It consists of a prototype based on plethysmography for the measurement and processing of cardiac signals with an educational focus. The project has two stages: in the first stage the laboratory socializes the functionality of the equipment donated by the Free University of Brussels with master's and undergraduate students.

In the second stage, a device is developed that will be used by doctors to measure heart rate, oxygen saturation in the blood and will include a pain diary for patient use. The guest lecturers were intrigued by the educational focus of the project and showed particular interest in the costs of a commercial product vs. commercial solution. the proposed prototype.

3. CCSH "Computación Centrada en el Ser Humano"

Exhibitor: Ing. Génesis Riera

Engineer Génesis Riera of the CCSH group "Human-Centered Computing" stated that the project called "Platform to model the impact of adverse events on the evacuation and access routes of the Durán canton using historical mobility data" proposes the creation of an interactive computational tool to simulate adverse event scenarios that, using historical mobility data and artificial intelligence, allows decision makers to determine the best set of evacuation routes and access to the Durán canton in emergency situations.

4. TRI "Tecnologías de Redes Inteligentes"

Exhibitor: Ing. Pedro Farinango

Eng. Pedro Farinango presented the project "Real-time energy consumption prediction based on Artificial Intelligence." He explained that this project consists of the implementation of a network of sensors that are capable of measuring variables such as: voltage, current, power, energy, among others.

This is in order to record the energy behavior of several workstations. Subsequently, regression techniques will be used to predict how much the energy consumption of these equipment is with the objective of optimizing and reducing maintenance costs due to the implementation of monitoring and management of energy resources.

In this way, it contributes to improving efficiency in Datacenter environments, which implies a positive impact both economically and environmentally.

5. INARI "Inteligencia Artificial Industrial"

Exhibitor: Ing. Bryan Piguave / Ing. Jennifer Pita

Eng. Bryan Piguave and Eng. Jennifer Pita from the INARI group (Industrial Artificial Intelligence) presented the Hanger Audit system which seeks to improve the process of ordering the items on the hanger according to what is established in the planogram. Using computer vision algorithms, automatic comparison is performed and detailed reports are generated presenting the audit results, including row-by-row evaluation.

They concluded that the use of the system allows evaluating compliance with the presence of items on hangers, identifying empty and wasted spaces, saving time in the manual audit process.

On their tour of the CTI laboratories, the students prioritized the research projects of the Information Technology Center to expand their knowledge and discover the level of technology projects carried out in the country.
