Virtual Circuits: An Augmented Reality Circuit Simulator for Engineering Students

Objetive: Explore the augmented reality capabilities for helping to develop engineering skills considering electrical networks.

Prototype:

A mobile application was implemented and a low-cost physical setup was designed in order to give to engineering students the opportunity to simulate electrical circuits by interacting with physical and virtual elements such way they have access to parameters that might be obtained by typical circuit simulators but considering the easiness to observe the virtual elements over physical objects that can be manipulated.

Results

The setup was tested with students registered in the subject "Electrical Networks Lab II" from ESPOL by considering a laboratory practice based on the proposed augmented reality system. They claimed that this tool can be useful as a complementary material for learning subjects related to network analysis in several scopes, not only electrical networks.
